Presenting Yourself Professionally

April 10, 2023

Best ways to present yourself as a professional in the service industry.

The number one thing that will separate you from local competition is how you present yourself.

Presenting yourself can be dozens of different things.

It could be the cleanliness of your truck, the way you keep your hoses managed on your reels, or maybe if your shirt is tucked in.

The best way you can present yourself before ever meeting your client is professionalism via email/phone/text. A few key points to make sure your you are operating at a level your clients expect are:

Answering The Phone - I can't tell you how many contractors I call for my own needs that don't answer the phone. If you are missing phone calls you are missing out on money. Most of you are in heavily populated areas so there are dozens of other washers out there that your prospect can call, and they will. I guarantee you whoever picks up the phone first has an extremely higher chance of earning that persons business.

Proper Punctuation/Spelling - Does everyone care about this? No, most probably don't. For those that do though I would hate to see you lose a $1,000 job because you seemed unprofessional during the initial communication with your client.

Build Value - During your initial contact with the prospect, they are most likely calling you to solve a problem they are having. They don't care about your big hot water pressure washer or how high your ladder can go. What they care about is that you will be able to solve their problem without creating a headache for them. I always found a great question to ask was "Have you had this done before? *Yes*, Awesome, did you have a good experience"? Their answer is probably no, if it was a good one they would be calling that company back. Find what their pain point was during their last service and explain how you operate to avoid the mistakes of the past contractor.
